Poznań for the weekend, Sir?

I’m going to go to Poznań for the weekend.

I’m going to try to go to Poznań for the weekend.

I must be mad.

At the end of February it was my intention to go to Łódź for the weekend, mainly to see the band “Beyond The Event Horizon” playing at Łódzki Dom Kultury but a tree falling across the railway line to the airport put paid to that idea. However, “Beyond The Event Horizon” are in the middle of a tour and this Saturday, 1st April, and no, it’s not an April Fools thing, this Saturday they are playing in Poznań. Now, being on a Saturday means that I don’t have to book time off of work, I can get a flight into Poznań airport, get to a hotel then out to a bar, trot along to the concert venue, see the band, back to the hotel and fly home on Sunday.

Sounds easy when you say it fast…

I must be mad.

I‘ll be leaving home just after 07.00 and, if everything goes to plan, arriving at the airport in Poznań somewhere around 14.30 (13.30 UK time) so getting to my hotel around 15.30 ish, I’ll then have a three hour window before the concert kicks-off at 18.30. There are four bands playing and the advertised times are 18.30 to 23.00 so that’s seven and a half hours or thereabouts of travel and airport formalities for four and a half hours of concert. I must be mad.

I like Poznań; I’ve been there a few times but I don’t think I’ll be seeing much of it in that three hour window. There is a small bar I like in ul. Kwiatowa called Fermentownia so I may, just may, call in there either before or after, or maybe before and after the concert. Fermentownia is one of these multi-tap bars; they have around 20 beers on tap, all “craft beer”, none of your Tyskie, Okocim, Żubr or other beers of that ilk in here thank you very much.

Top Tram Trivia.

OK, here’s your Top Tram Trivia: Poznań has the greatest variety of trams running in its streets than any other town in Poland. That’s your Top Tram Trivia, to fakt.

On Sunday the schedule is a bit more relaxed, getting to Poznań Airport from the middle of Poznań is a lot easier than getting to Stansted from Chesham, so if the weather is clement I may have a little time to relax and soak up some of the atmosphere in the old market square before I have to go to the airport.

Either way, I’ll be getting back to Stansted around 16.00 (UK time) so it’s probably going to be gone 19.00 by the time I get back to Chesham. I really must be mad.

I really must be mad.

Actually, the mad thing is that four days afterwards I’m going back to Poland, this time for the Marillion Weekend Poland event at Klub Wytwórnia in Łódź. Three nights of concerts by Marillion, three nights of concerts in Łódź with the attendant visitations to bars that that will entail. I really, truly must be mad.
