“…the truth is that the State in which the rulers are most reluctant to govern is always the best and most quietly governed, and the State in which they are most eager, the worst.”
Plato, The Republic.
The Conservative leadership race, part… um, who’s still counting?
Thank goodness Boris pulled out.
Go on, make up your own jokes…
So now the Conservatives have to choose.
Sunak, a rich man in his own right who just happens to have married the daughter of an Indian billionaire, or Mordaunt who spent a gap year in Romania working in hospitals and orphanages, did a stint being sawn in half on stage as a magician’s assistant and was part of the Royal Naval Reserve.
I’ve got no love for the Tories, but If I had a vote and if I had to choose between the two, Penny would get my vote, no question.
Plus, Penny’s parents named her after the WW2 Arethusa-class light cruiser, HMS Penelope (yeah, I think that’s pretty cool) and she’s got nice hair, not that I suspect having nice hair counts for much in the chaotic world of politics, does it?
Couldn’t hurt though.
It used to be said that a week was a long time in politics, but thanks to rampant inflation caused by the chaos in Westminster, now one day is a long time in politics and by the time you read this the fateful deal may already be done, the little man may already be PM but let’s hope not.
As I said, I’ve no love for the Tories but please, not Sunak, let Penny and her nice hair have a go.

“I think that if our rulers and their auxiliaries are to be worthy of the name which they bear, there must be willingness to obey in the one and the power of command in the other; the guardians must themselves obey the laws, and they must also imitate the spirit of them in any details which are entrusted to their care.”
Plato, The Republic.
